In recent history, we have seen generations being fed the “Reefer Madness” concept that cannabis is an extremely dangerous and addictive gateway drug the can lead to very horrific scenarios.
For decades now there has been a huge negative stigma around cannabis, such as becoming violent and insane. This is far from the truth; we have come to learn that cannabis is relatively safe compared to other socially accepted substances. Statistically speaking, the death toll of cannabis overdose in comparison to alcohol, opioids and tobacco, is staggering. As we learn more about cannabis and it becoming more streamlined it is clear that the negative propaganda was nothing more than smoke and guns.
Fast forward to 2017; here's is what we know about cannabis. The fact is, from my experience and to anyone who uses cannabis, is that you can be a recreational cannabis user and still be a functional and productive member of society. Let's be real, cannabis usage by adults is not the end of the world. I'm glad to see that society is moving past this ridiculous stereotype of cannabis being the “devil’s lettuce”. We are seeing professionals and educated people emerge as advocates to end the negative stigma around cannabis and putting an end to prohibition.
Society is thankfully becoming more educated on cannabis, views of it being career ending disgrace or that you are meant to be an outcast, is now crumbling. The reality is, cannabis does not shape a person's moral, character, and integrity thus seeing the idea of “Reefer Madness” coming to an end.
